Turmeric Processing Units

A turmeric powder processing plant takes raw turmeric rhizomes and turns them into a finished powder through a series of steps including washing, blanching, slicing, drying, polishing, grinding, and packaging. Modern plants are often automated and can include advanced features like dust-free operations and specialized grinding to maintain quality. The entire process is designed for high capacity and efficiency, ensuring a consistent and high-quality final product.

Processing Steps

  • Receiving and sorting: Raw turmeric enters the plant and is inspected on a sorting conveyor to remove any unwanted or poor-quality rhizomes.

  • Washing: The sorted turmeric is thoroughly washed to remove dirt and other impurities.

  • Blanching: Rhizomes are typically blanched, often by steaming, to kill microorganisms and make the slicing process easier.

  • Slicing: The blanched turmeric is sliced into uniform pieces to ensure even drying.

  • Drying: The slices are then dried to the required dryness fraction using industrial dryers.

  • Polishing: This step removes the outer skin from the dried turmeric.

  • Grinding: The dried turmeric chips are ground into powder. Different types of grinding machines, like impact pulverizers or hammer mills, are used depending on the desired output. Advanced plants may use specialized grinding equipment to control heat and dust.

  • Vibro Sifter/Sieving machine: Sieving machine is separates the ground spices based on particle size, ensuring a uniform powder.

  • Dust collector: Dust collectors are crucial in the spices industry to manage airborne dust generated during various processes like grinding, mixing, and packaging. These systems help maintain a clean and safe working environment by capturing dust particles, preventing contamination, and reducing health and safety hazards.

  • Packaging: Finally, the turmeric powder is weighed, packed, and sealed, often with moisture-proof packaging, for distribution.

Different Types of Turmeric making Machine Plants
  • Commercial Spice Grinder Machine: A specific type of machine for grinding turmeric into powder, with varying horsepower (HP) and output capacity.

  • Semi-automatic machine/plants : semi -automatic machines involve manual handling of some processes, such as loading and unloading materials.

  • Fully Automatic: These plants automate most of the processing steps, requiring minimal manual intervention
